The placement of the ad on your website has a huge impact on click through rate and thus earnings. If you place ads somewhere where no visitors go you will not earn much from it. I will not tell you which ad placement performs best on your website because I honestly do not know. I could make some guesses based on my own experience but to be sure you have to test it on your website.
I encountered a new layout for the Adsense 468×60 ad units that Google seems to test at the moment. Normally the text Google appears in the right lower corner of the ad unit but on this ad unit it appeared on the upper left. This will, in my opinion, severely reduce the click through rate of that ad unit especially if you place it in your content and not in some place on the top of the page.
I have been testing Bidvertiser as a publisher the last week and have to say that the advertiser has lots of potential and that the correct choice of ads can increase the daily earnings. I was not able to generate huge sums with it compared to Google Adsense but if you cant use Google Adsense Bidvertiser is one of the top Adsense alternatives earnings wise.
There are literally hundreds of pay per click Adsense alternatives and do not have the resources to evaluate each of them. The problem that all of them have is that they do not have the massive reach of Google Adsense. Those programs have to work with a limited amount of advertisers. This leads to a few problems, it does not actually have to mean that you will make less per click than with Google Adsense but it – most of the time – means that the ads displayed will not be that contextual which will result in fewer clicks and thus lower revenue.
