Social Bookmarking websites can be great ways to increase the traffic to your blog. Traffic is most of the time targeted unless you get featured on some homepage that is. You do get a backlink to your website, you do get some traffic, all of that for some additional work. So, yes I personally think it is a good idea if you publish your links to a few websites.
Besides the traffic that some of those websites can drive they do normally add backlinks to your article and website. Those backlinks are not only added on their public pages but also from your profile page on their website.
I know some users like to publish it to all bookmarking websites they can get their hands on. Nothing’s wrong with that approach but I personally think it is to time consuming. I prefer to keep a list of four or five sites and submit some of my articles to them regularly. I seldom submit articles to Digg, only those who might have a chance to hit the frontpage get submitted, maybe one article a week.
If I had to make a selection I would submit my website to Stumbleupon first, because it can drive quite a good chunk of targeted traffic to your website. My second vote would be for Del.icio.us simply because it’s huge and links can get picked up rapidly as well.
All other websites are a matter of choice, here are two lists of social bookmarking websites that are helpful. There is also a lot of confusion going on. Not all websites entitled Social Bookmarking websites are that. Digg for instance, which is always mentioned in such lists is a Social News site and not a Social Bookmarking website.
The same is true for Reddit, Propeller and all the other services.
