If webmasters are not doing affiliate marketing but pay per click or cpm they ultimately crave for direct advertisement on their websites and blogs. Direct Advertisement will usually result in increased earnings because they tend to have a much higher effective cpm than any other form of advertisement.

Most blogs and websites use the nofollow html attribute in their comment section to prevent the passing of so called link juice (practically a vote for that website) to the websites mentioned or added by the commenter. It basically means that posting a comment and including your websites url will not increase your position in the search engines.

What is the best Adsense unit ?

The question about the best Adsense unit is asked many times in webmaster forums each day and users will definitely get different answers depending on the person and his websites. Certain trends suggest that the medium and large rectangle are the best performing ad units when placed next to content while the leaderboard ad performs best in places where users would look for navigation. The problem I have with leaderboards is that they take away the most expensive ads if it is placed on top which means that the rectangle units near the content will earn less.

Exploring Ad Placements

The placement of the ad on your website has a huge impact on click through rate and thus earnings. If you place ads somewhere where no visitors go you will not earn much from it. I will not tell you which ad placement performs best on your website because I honestly do not know. I could make some guesses based on my own experience but to be sure you have to test it on your website.
